Artist Booklet
For our portraiture booklet we looked at many different types of portrait images such as close up and extreme angle shots however our booklet also involved other types of technical shots such as sepia and solarized images. This project helped me learn different types of portraiture images aside from normal close up or medium portrait shots.
Solarized Portrait
This image was the first photo of my portraiture booklet. This is a solarized studio portrait image taken with the use of two studio lights and a white background. This image is sharp and the face takes up majority of the image. The contrast between the face of the person and the hair is very strong. The face is very bright and the hair is very dark. By the shoulders the hair of the subject adds reflection as the light reflects off the hair leaving a shine effect. The eyes of the subject are a main part of the image as the subject is looking directly at the camera and therefore at the viewer of the image. I used photoshop with this image to change it from colour to black and white. This helped bring out the contrast in this image and to lower disruption of the background.
Balanced
This image is my balanced image in my digital artist booklet. The image shows to people standing on opposite sides of the stairs with one of them in the top right and the other in the bottom left therefore balancing the image with the same amount of focus either side. This image works relatively well in my set. The focus in this image is relatively strong and the composition includes different depths of field as the stairs get higher. The light is good in this image in the bottom left of the image were its very strong however in higher parts of the image the light weakens.
Camouflage
This image is my camouflage image of my artist digital booklet. For this image i used a grey scarf to dress my subject with and then used duct tape to cover the mask creating the same colour as the scarf. I pressured different parts of the tape to create the eyes, mouth and nose of the face. This worked very well with the scarf creating a blend between the main face and scarf due to the black area in-between. I chose a grey background that is very similar to the colour of the person and their costume. I used the studio lights and positioned them looking up at the image from below making most of the light around the face of the image. The shoulders of the person blend in very well with the background due to the positioning of the lights. The image is strong in focus and the contrast changes nicely throughout the image.
Close Up
This image is a close up portrait image. I used the white background in the studio and studio lights to create a very vibrant image. The high amount of light resulted in very strong focus and a very detailed image of the face and the features of the persons face. The contrast is very strong with a vibrant face and shoulders against the white background. The eyes of the subject are looking directly into the camera and therefore at the viewer of the image. This photo works very well l in my set as its very impact full. I edited this image slightly to adjust the contrast which worked very well in enhancing the face compared to the background.
Extreme Angle
This is my extreme angle shot part of my artist booklet. The composition in this image really worked well taken from above and looking directly down to the subject of the image. This worked very well with the majority of the light being on the subjects face and therefore bringing most attention to her. The colours in this image are strong with the red jumper and the fous is also rather strong. This image overall worked very well for extreme angle with a high composition yet not such much perspective / depth of field.
Pattern
This pattern image worked very well as part of my artist booklet. I took this image using the white studio background to blend nicely with the pattern I used on top of the image. The pattern works well with the image with the eyes of the subject peaking through the holes in the pattern. The light in the image is good with one side being dark and the other being bright. This works nicely behind the pattern to create balance but also the focus in this image is very strong therefore meaning that it can still be seen behind the pattern and not to much detail is lost to be able to see the background image.
Perspective
My perspective images worked well in my set. My perspective image was taken from a very high angle looking downwards at a person who is looking out of a spiral staircase. This creates a vertigo affect on the image with the lowest point of the image being quite low down from the position in which the image was taken. The railings and the staircase are very vibrant in this image standing out in particular which is why i choose to position my subject close to them. the focus in this image assists the perspective as the higher up the stairs the stronger the focus. The focus however weakens slightly towards the bottom of the image.
Sepia
This is my sepia image - part of my artist booklet. I made this image sepia using tools on photoshop to create a sepia like affect. The image itself is a strong portait image of a person who is looking into the distance. The subject takes up majority of the image leaving only a tiny fraction of the image empty therefore resulting in the image bringing all the attention to the person with no other distractions. The focus in this image is strong and sharp and the light changes on either side with as the light is coming from the left hand side of the image therefore leaving the right hand side slightly darker. The strong focus results with the details of the face being visible and therefore a good image to use sepia toner for as the image is still clear despite the sepia layer.
Studio
This is my studio image in my artist booklet. For this image i gathered together specific clothing items and masks to create two well known film/magazine superheroes batman and spiderman. This image worked rather well showing both of the figures together in a kind of combat motion. The light in this image is strong resulting in high focus and the shadows in the background. The composition in this photo represents is supposed to represent the figures actions for example spiderman who uses his fists to release webs and batman who is a lot more physical (hand to hand).
Symmetrical
This is my symmetrical image - part of my artist booklet. Here i found and used a mirror and then positioned my subject to lean towards it. This resulted with the original person being shown from the left hand side and the reflection in the mirror from the right hand side therefore showing both sides of the persons face from one view point. This image worked very well symmetrically as well as the focus which is very sharp and the composition in this photo means that the change between the reflection and the 'real' her is down the centre of the image.
